Bugs pending to be fixed!

There are two bugs that two users had reported recently, thanks for doing so.

I have detected them and as soon as I got some free time, I'll fix them and publish and update.

One of the bug made the app crash when the TTS engine failed, and the other one crashed the app as well when you use the "Goggles" app to scan the barcode in the bingo cards.

I'll have some time in the next 5 days so stay tuned.

I just added a feature an user request. He wanted to see the last numbers called when calling the numbers. So I added the possibility to see from 1 to 10 last numbers called, you can also configure the color and opacity of the numbers and the color of the strip where the numbers are shown.

While I was working, I decided to add also the possibility to select the color of the number in the ball. And also fixed some usability issues. I'm still testing it, but probably this weekend when I have some free time, I'll release this version. Here you have some screenshots so you can see what I'm talking about.

Nicknames Files (How To)

In the new version of Bingomatic you can create your own file with nicknames for the numbers, and then just placing it in a folder called 'Bingomatic' in your SD card you can use it by selecting in the preferences.

The file that you create has to be a simple 'txt' with the next structure:

You have to write one number and its nicks for line
You don't have to write all numbers, just the ones you want to associate to a nick
You will write first the number, and after that the nicks separated for the character '-'
You have to write at least one nick for the number you write. If you put more, in each game will be used one randomly.
Don't write anything but the numbers, the separators (-) and the nicks.
An example of a line with the number 24 and two nicks of it:

24-This is the nick1-And this is the nick2

Bingomatic Pro 1.7 released

The new version of Bingomatic Pro its already in the market. This update brings a lot of improvements y many aspects. It also brings new features as nicknames and backrgounds. Here you have a list with the new things this version offers:

Nicknames for the numbers, you can create your owns
Different backgrounds, you can use your own image
Custom colors for ball, bingo cards and marker, also choose between different markers
Better distribution in different screen sizes
Many improvements in GUI, customization and usability
Real landscape mode to fill the hole TV when you connect the device with it

I'm planing to restructure the web in order to make easier to find the important information. But for now at least I'll tell you a bit about how to create your own nicknames files in the next post.

Big update coming to Bingomatic Pro

As I said in the previous post, I'm working on an update for Bingomatic. I've work hard this week, and the next release will be ready soon. It comes with a bunch of new options and improvements.

Here you have a list of what you can expect to have in the new version:

Choose between different backgrounds when calling the numbers.
Also you can use your own images as background, just placing them in the Bingomatic folder on your SD card.
Now the app will have the option of use nicknames for the numbers. It comes with English nicknames, but you can create your own file (a simple txt) of nicknames and use it just placing in the SD card too.
There will be more customization options like color of the ball, of the marker, different kind of markers and size of the ball.
The UI have been improved so now it fits better with different screen sizes, in tablets for example the ball will fit the screen.
The landscape mode, now will be real landscape so it'll fit the hole screen for people who was using it on TV.
A bug fixed when choosing which columns call or not.

I will release the update as soon as i can. It'll come first for bingomatic pro. Then probably I'll publish an update of the free version. It'll have advertisement in some screens and some of the options of the pro version, but it'll be an important update because now the free version is a bit outdated.

Working on a new release of Bingomatic

I'm currently working on an update of Bingomatic Pro, with some features that suggested me some users. I've been busy with my exams and some works since January but now I have some time to work on it, and I'll publish and update soon.

I'll probably update the free version too, adding some new features and also adding advertisement in order to try to monetize a bit my work.

I got a lot of work to do in the app with the suggestions I've already recived, but if you have any idea of something you woud like to see in Bingomatic, fell free to let me know.

I'm working on the generator of bingocards in PDF. Soon will be bingocards a bit bigger and with the QR code in the same side to make it easier to print.

Acabo de subir al market una nueva versión. En esta versión se han añadido una serie de mejoras en la estabilidad de la aplicación y también he añadido la funcionalidad de soporte para escaneo de códigos QR, como os contaba en el blog hace algunos días.

Ahora con estas nuevas opciones puedes comprobar los números de un cartón que han sido cantados o no, y comprobar instantáneamente si es un bingo valido o no.

En esta pagina podéis descargaros las plantillas listas para imprimir con cartones y sus respectivos códigos QR para jugar y probar las nuevas opciones.

En unos días intentare subir un vídeo tutorial de la aplicación. Espero que os gusten las novedades. Saludos.

Es muy importante reportar los errores con el botón que sale para ello en la ventana del cierre forzado, como han hecho dos usuarios hoy, ya que eso permite al desarrollador encontrar el error y arreglarlo rápidamente.

I just have uploaded a new version to the market. It has many improvements on stability of the app. And I've also included the new feature I told you some time ago. It's support for QR codes.

Now with the camera of your mobile you can check which numbers of a bingo card has been called. You can download printable pdf files with bingo cards and theirs QR codes from this site and play with it.

Un usuario ha escrito en los comentarios que le sale force close cuando da a jugar bingo. El único dato que tengo es que tiene un Motorola Milestone, así que agradecería si algún otro usuario lee esto y tiene un Milestone me cuente si tiene el mismo problema o por si el contrario a él le funciona bien.
Los desarrolladores apreciamos mucho el feedback de los usuarios porque nos ayuda a mejorar nuestras aplicaciones, pero poniendo en los comentarios que da fallo sin decir mucho mas no sirve de mucho, porque ademas no tenemos forma de contactar de vuelta al usuario para pedir mas información y tratar de arreglar el fallo. Muchas gracias, saludos!

An user has said on Spanish comments that he has force closes when selecting "play bingo". He owns a Motorola Milestone. I would like to know if there is more users with the same model having the same issue or if it works well for them.
So if you also own a Milestone, I would appreciate if you tell me how it works. Thanks.
The feedback is very welcome for all developers, but the best way to do it is by sending an email (easily from the market) or in the website of the developer letting us to contact you back and try to fix the bug. Thanks!

One cool feature I will probably add to Bingomatic

These days I'm on my exams so I can't spend many time developing, but I keep thinking how to improve the application. One of the ideas that came to my mind, was to add the ability to check the bingo with the camera phone scanning a QR code.

Obviously if you hand wrote your bingo card this ain't possible but if you are playing with printed bingo cards (I would have to offer an online generator or something) or, and this is the way i like more, if you are playing with one mobile as bingo caller and some more as bingo cards, you just have to select 'generate QR' in the menu and it will bring the code to be scanned for the main mobile that will say instantly if it is a real bingo or not.

I think that check 25 or less numbers in a board isn't quite difficult but doing automatically with the camera would be pretty cool, don't you think?

Acabo de publicar la versión 1.3 que tiene los siguientes cambios:

Añadido dialogo para informar cuando el usuario tiene que instalar las librerías de síntesis de voz. Y da la opción de seguir jugando sin voz.

El primer numero no se cantaba a veces en algunos teléfonos con android 1.6. (corregido)
Redistribución de las opciones de configuración. Así queda mas limpio y ordenado y es mejor por si en un futuro voy añadiendo mas opciones.
Mejoras de usabilidad en las ventanas de los cartones. Ahora el botón de 'atras' limpia el cartón si esta con marcas. Y los botones del menú han intercambiado su posición para que sea mas cómodo generar un cartón nuevo con el teléfono en horizontal.
Añadida opción de pantalla completa.

Estoy buscando traductores para tener la aplicación en el máximo numero de idiomas posibles. Actualmente esta en ingles y español, y estoy en contacto con una persona para que lo haga en chino.
Estoy interesado en traducirlo al alemán, francés e italiano y cualquier otro idioma que me propongan. Contactar conmigo por email o aquí en los comentarios. No hace falta saber nada de programación es solo editar un fichero de texto.

A new update is about to be released the changes are:

Added a dialog when the user had to install TTS library, informing and letting them to install it or keep playing without the voice.
Not saying the first ball in some 1.6 versions (bug fixed)
Reorganized the settings window in order to make it more clear, this new distribution is better in case I add more options in the future.
Usability improvements in bingo cards. The back button now clears a dirty card. And the menu buttons has changed positions in order to make it more comfortable generate a new one with the phone in horizontal.
Full screen option.

I'm looking for translators to any language. By now the application is in English and Spanish. If you want the application in your language contact me by email or in the comments. You don't need to know programing is just edit a text file changing the sentences from Spanish or English to your language.

I'm in contact with someone that probably will make the Chinese translation. I'm specially interested in contact people for the Italian, French or German translation.

Hola a todos los hispano hablantes que visiten el blog, en las entradas anteriores he ido contando un poco de cómo y porque empece a desarrollar bingomatic, asi como contar las ideas que me habian dado en un foro para mejorar la aplicación.
A todos los que esteis leyendo esto y habéis descargado la aplicación me gustaria que me comentarais que os ha parecido y que se os ocurre para mejorarla.

Espero que os guste y os sea util para pasar el rato mas de una vez.

Xda-developers.com user nathantm has suggested me an interesting feature to add. It's the possibility to select which column/numbers will be called or not when playing US Bingo. Making different choices you can play many different games like"Crazy Kite", "Small picture frame"...and many more, like for examples these ones, also you can play your own ones.

This feature will be available soon, and in the same update will come a new caller board for US Bingo where is easier to check the numbers.

I wanna tell you a bit of this application. But before I'll tell you why this application.

It started 3 weeks ago, more than a year after I installed the android sdk I finally decided to start learning develop in android. So I though in a simple application which I could develop while learning from the basis. This is how I started developing Bingomatic.

After a few weeks of work in my free time I decided to publish the first version of my app in the market, it started with some disappointing ratings and useless comments, but then good people came with better ratings and wich is more important, with useful comments and feedback. Thanks to those people I've fixed some things in the app and added some features and by now it is in version 1.1 after 2 updates.

Well, now that I've told you how it started I'll tell you what is this application for and show you how it looks.

Bingomatic is an application to play bingo games with friends and family no matter where you are. You only need some paper to copy down the bingo cards that the app generate for you. Then start the game, bingomatic will call the numbers like a bingo caller machine. You don't need anymore to carry with the cage and the balls, this app will substitute them.

I´m the developer of Bingomatic for android, and i've created this blog in order to publish here what is new in the updates or let you know if i am planning to add something to the application.

It's also a good place where i could get feedback about the app, and I guess when i start developing another apps, i will publish here beta versions and all stuff.
